Vladimir Petrov – the legend of hockey

Today at 4 o’clock in the morning the legendary forward of CSCA and the USSR national hockey team Vladimir Petrov died at the age of 69 years old.

Vladimir Petrov was a regular honorable guest of “EuroChem Cup” opening ceremony. This year he was also supposed to open the tournament.

Vladimir Petrov started his professional career in 1965 as a member of the team “Krylya Sovetov”. From 1967 to 1981 he played for “CSCA”. As a part of this team Vladimir Petrov became the champion of the USSR eleven times and the USSR cup winner five times. During the period from 1981 to 1983 he played for Leningrad SCA, where he finished his professional career.

As a part of the USSR national team Vladimir Petrov won the Olympics twice (1972, 1976) and also became the silver medalist of the Olympic Games 1980 and won World Championship nine times. He also took part in the matches of Supersession between the USSR and Canada in 1972 and 1974. The link of Boris Mikhailov, Vladimir Petrov and Valeriy Kharlamov was one of the greatest in the history of world hockey.
